An engaging and enjoyable read for fans of both the classic Bunter series and historical fiction. The author does a very effective job of continuing the stories of the main characters from the famous Greyfrairs School and charting their diverse experiences during the Second World War. Furthermore, the author uses his historical knowledge to portray very poignant wartime scenes from the POV of multiple characters, yet at the same time delivers black comedy reminiscent of the classic Bunter stories. I would definitely recommend!

I came to these stories not knowing Bunter intimately. I knew that he was a British institution up there with Sherlock Holmes and James Bond, but not a lot else. Having read these updates, however, I feel like I’ve always known him.

The idea of Bunter leaving school will strike some as heresy, but the success of the project should win over the most dyed-in-the-wool Bunter fans. Not only do Bunter et al. appear here as fully realised characters, but they are put in a world that is real. Sending Bunter to war creates opportunities in many directions for innovation and intrigue, and the author allows these to develop naturally, never forcing the points. A great success. I hope additions are forthcoming.
